Getting the colors right- check. Getting the tones right? Not so easy. Draw a good drawing, paint in Greyscale, then add color. Wow. Here is a painting using black and white only. I used Gamblin radiant white for the pearls and some highlights, otherwise it is plain old titanium.
This is another painting that painted itself. Started as clouds on a beach. I thought of an old friend who walked in the forests of Oregon and the trees started to emerge, then a path in the center of the forest opened up. When I was done, I did not go back and clean it up. The spirit has spoken.
Abstract painting of an overhead shot of Barsoom. which we know as Mars. Great book, great movie. This started as a painted desert scene that took on a a life of its own. This time, I let the painting decide what it wanted to be.
Okay back to some fun stuff. Although this is after all classical art, it has the figure, foreshortening, composition, and a thought for the medium (acrylic paint on watercolor paper) and the delivery–it’s really big. Life size actually, assuming Wade is really about 6’1″.
