Weekly painting Week 43- Masterpiece

Ever wonder where that term came from? Students studying painting first learned drawing, then materials, color, perspective, still life, figure painting and landscape. When they could put it all together, they presented the Guild with one “Master Piece” that incorporated all the elements they had learned. Also known as a Genre Painting, it shows all your mad skills in one work. I was asked to recreate a Picasso Masterpiece for a couple– looked easy at first. Repainting a master work is a challenge but more than that, it is a way to get inside the head of an artist. I present my version of “Absinthe Drinker”: Oil on Canvas, 36″ x 48″ Absinthe Drinker After Picasso
